Recommended reading: Senator Lydia Edwards vigorously taking on Diana DiZoglio. H/t to he Globe newsletter, The Scrum.
From the Formal Request:
"Below is a multi-pronged response to each of the arguments from the Auditor..
"C. “It’s sad that you no longer partner with our office on these matters, ever since Madam President promoted you. I remember when you used to call us to collaborate instead of launching inaccurate attacks on our office’s accomplishments – in attempt to try to take cheap shots at me personally.” Auditor DiZoglio, June 9, 2026.
- 1. The Senator agrees that her office worked and collaborated with the Auditor and her office. Senator Edwards endorsed and supported the Auditor in her campaign. The Senator was also a member on Auditor DiZoglio’s transition team, collaborated with her in developing the Aditor’s 17-point Social Justice and Equity Audit Plan, worked with her staff on identifying pathways to conduct a report to hold Uber and Lyft accountable to financial obligations to Massachusetts Programs, and later defended the Auditor and her report publicly in the Boston Herald.
- 2. The Senator purposefully chose to publicly approach the Auditor with this audit request. When she and the Auditor discussed at length and over several meetings the Uber and Lyft assessment, the Auditor confirmed to the Senator that many people approach the Auditor in confidentiality and that the Auditor would maintain confidentiality of the Senator’s request for investigation. The Auditor, however, during a Ways and Means hearing announced that Senator Edwards was the reason she initiated the assessment. Rather than risk another public outing by the Auditor, the Senator felt it easier and more direct to begin the conversation publicly."
...
"G. Finally, the Senator does want to acknowledge that the Auditor’s cumulative response across social media platform comments was not wholly negative. The Senator particularly appreciates the Auditors congratulations on the Senator’s promotion. Again,
however, a little correction is in order. First, the “President” not “Madam President” promoted Senator Edwards. Second, the Senator’s military promotion is the only promotion the Senator has received. Thus, Senator Edwards would appreciate that the Auditor, in reference to the Senator’s promotion, use her new rank, Captain, as in Captain Lydia Edwards in the Massachusetts Army National Guard."
