STEM Summer Programs at BU

TWO WEEKS AWAY!
Tuesday, March
24th, at 10 a.m. on Zoom
Join us for a special session to hear from three BU staff members about the STEM
summer programs they lead! These programs are open and available to youth in the community, offering a chance to explore, learn, and have fun this summer. This year’s
featured programs include GROW, SummerLab, and various programs at the College of Engineering.

GROW offers rising high school seniors the opportunity to perform research in a lab at BU for six weeks;
-
Participants attend a mandatory one-day orientation on July 6th
-
Participants are placed individually in labs where they work from July 7th - August 14th, M-F from 9:30
AM - 4:30 PM
ELIGIBILITY
-
Must currently be a junior enrolled in a school in MA and live within a 30-mile radius of Boston
-
Must be at least sixteen years old by July 1, 2026
-
Must have a demonstrated record of achievement in science
BENEFITS

$2,000 stippend
-
Participate in cutting-edge research in a collaborative group setting;

Meet several times a week with the Program Manager to set goals and report of progress of your research;

Hear guest speakers discuss their research and/or careers in STEM;

Develop communication skills by presenting your research at a summer symposium

|
A hands-on biotechnology summer program for students ages 15 and older where participants conduct laboratory experiments
using authentic research equipment. Students learn techniques such as CRISPR gene editing and other molecular biology methods while exploring careers in biomedical research and medicine.
SCHEDULE
Session 1: July 6-July 17 — Gene Editing in Human Disease
Session 2: July 13-July 24 — Gene Editing in Human Disease
Session 3: July 20-July 31 — Gene Editing in Human Disease
Session 4: July 27-August 7 — Gene Editing in Human Disease
ELIGIBILITY

Must be at least 15 years old by June 30, 2026

Must be able to attend the full two-week session

Monday-Friday from 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Must be able to commute to campus daily

No transcripts, teacher recommendations, or test scores are required for admission

|
|
|
|
|
U-Design
U-Design is a hands-on summer STEM Program for students entering grades 7-10. Led by experienced teachers and supported by
BU Inspiration Ambassadors, students explore engineering through creative projects while applying the engineering design process to experiment, design, build, and solve problems.

FIRE
The First Inspiration in Research in Engineering (FIRE) Program introduces high school students to engineering through hands-on
learning and real-world projects. Guided by BU faculty and PhD students, participants explore topics such as biomedical engineering techniques, CAD and 3D printing, and Arduino programming, while participating in lab tours and collaborative hackathon challenge.
