The songs are from Alibabavum 40 Thirudargalum only.

 

There was an earlier movie with the same title. N S Krishnan will play the role of Sarangapani in that movie. I forget the hero - was it P U Chinnappa?

 

Colour films were quite expensive in the initial period and hence was sparsely used. In அடுத்த வீட்டு பெண் movie, only some songs were screened in colour in some prints while other prints carried the whole movie in B & W only.

Ramanathan sir,

 

I am given to understand in during the fifties/sixties many films were having the important

song scenes(mostly duet songs),  in colour,but these are not evident in recent day vcd/dvd

 

Can u list some of the song that were in colour from Black & White films

 

A notable ones referred to me are:

 

AMBIKAPATHI................................. DUET SONGS

THANGAMALAI RAGASIYAM............DUET SONGS

I am not aware of many such movies.

 

Nadodi Mannan was produced by MGR in B & W. Midway, he took fascination to colour. Sarojadevi was straight introduced in colour with a song after two-third of movie was over.

 

Alibaba was the first full length colour movie. Before that some movies came in part colour- mostly for songs. But I do not know the detais.

 

I have seen Adutha Vettu Penn in theatres in both version - some in part colour and others with no colour.

Hi: In Sivaji's Ambigapathi also only one song in. "Maasilla Nilavae Nam Kaathalai" song was  picturised in GEVA color and screened.  This particular song was shot by W R Subba Rao, who was associated with Sivaji films like Navarathri, Thiruvilaayadal and Saraswathi Sabatham.  Further, he is having the record of First Cameraman to have shot in color the MGR film Alibabavum 40 Thirudargalum!  He has worked in several Sivaji films those days. Due to some misunderstanding during shooting his name was forever not found in the future films of  Sivaji Ganesan!   He is a specialist in trickshot photography and unfortunately could not get further films of Sivaji.
