PLEASE CONSIDER MAKING THIS A PRIORITY TO ATTEND

Dear Friends,
Some of our friends, neighbors and families are being targeted for deportation.

The personal and community consequences are devastating at every level:  threat, seizure, detention, deportation.
Due process is often not exercised.

On July 24, Hannah Hill, with Breadline, wrote: “There is growing concern among my staff & volunteers about the recent expansion of ICE & the nuanced implications that it has on our community's safety. As an organization committed to serving people without barriers, we like to learn from the professionals in order to do our best possible work.”

Therefore she has coordinated with Alaska’s ACLU to offer:  Know Your Rights/Know Your Power Training: 5:30-7:30PM on Monday, August 25th via Zoom

While this training is tailored for nonprofits serving immigrant communities, it is absolutely open to everyone.

The training will cover how to distinguish between ICE & law enforcement, proper or improper warrants, how to advocate for & protect individuals who are at your facility, the potential risks of harboring, & the power individuals have to push back against unlawful enforcement actions.

Hannah notes:  “We expect a substantial turn out so there will [probably] not be time for a live Q&A. However, people can submit questions ahead of time to  efa...@acluak.org.

Chena Ridge Friends (Quakers) will be offering a group venue for this Zoom gathering, at the Hidden Hill Meeting House, 2682 GoldHill Rd, Fairbanks, on Monday, Aug 25, 5:30-7:30pmAK.
Plus there will be group discussion available after the Zoom.

To better care for our community, we all need solid information about what is really happening, and what civil protections there are.  It doesn’t matter that certain individuals might not feel personally threatened. It matters that we all know how to speak about the issues and advocate effectively.

Please share this invitation.
