Hi,
We are trying to configure SNMP with alarmtraq. I've followed the
settings from the alarmtraq support site, but can't seem to get it
working with a S8700 server.
Can someone tell me what steps we should take to get it working?

Thanks,

Evert

make sure the router connected to your public IP address is forwarding
port 162 (UDP) to the private IP Address that the AlarmTraq server is
using.

Hi Jim! Hope you had a good holiday and a fantastic 07!

Digging a little deeper into SNMP; while setting up the OSS origination
(shell)
it asks for SNMP Origination (yes/no). My question is, do I enter an IP
destination in the 1st or 2nd OSS number field?
Why is this even here? I see that I can configure alarms to be sent
from the web interface and I will do that.
Just wondering what the purpose or difference between the two is?

All SNMP settings are configured from the web interface.

The almenable command is used to administer or display Alarm
Origination (Traditional Dial-out Modem Calls), and SNMP Alarm
Origination. These parameters can no longer be administered via the
DEFINITY SAT Interface. All almenable parameters will be logged into
alarm_oss.conf file.

Usage: almenable [-d [n|f|b]] [-s [y|n]] ] | [-?]
no argument: display
-d: set dial out alarm origination to
n - neither (default)
f - first number only
b - both numbers
-s: enable (y)(default) or disable (n) snmp alarm
origination

I think I am confused... :/
There is no purpose to setting SNMP Alarm origination to [y] via this
method?
(almenable -d b -s y)

What is is the purpose of setting it to yes at all if a destination IP
is not defined?
Does setting it to yes or no effect weather or not snmp is sent even if
you have snmp enabled via the web interface?

I set up snmp up on one of our S8710 servers yesterday. SNMP v1
(public) to the AlarmTraq destination IP. Routers have been configured
to allow snmp to that end-point on 162 across the network. The 8710
firewall/security setting have been set to allow SNMPTrap Outbound.
SNMP receiver has been enabled on the AlarmTraq server.

I initiated an SNMP Trap test on the S8710, it returns the message
(successful).
However, nothing arrives. We don;t even see it on the firewall access
request. Which says to me, it was never sent by the S8710.

Hence the reason for my question; does the [alamenable -s yes (or) no]
effect this.
What is the actual purpose to these settings? :D

P.S. - I know this should really be a question for Avaya... just
wondering if anyone knows? :)

Jim - FYI...

We were able to get SNMP working on three of our S87xx servers. Will be
setting up an S8500 as well, as soon as we get a LAN side NIC installed
in it.

We went into Shell from the SAT configured ALMENABLE and then
ALMSNMPCONF to set the SNMP destination(s). Did this on both servers
where applicable.
Then we accessed the Maint. Web Interface and defined the receiver
IP's. (on both servers)
The last thing was stopping and restarting the SNMP Agent. Once we did
that, we were up and running.

Thanks!
Marc
