As Salaamu Alaikoum,

Yesterday we had a non-Muslim woman join the site to ask me the question, "can her husband who is muslim tell her to stop cooking pork."  I answered her and told her that yes he can tell her whatever he wants but the reality is that just as Muslims are not subject to the laws of the Kufar, the Kufar are not subjected to our laws either.  I then went on to tell her this is why Muslim men should think twice before marrying Non-Muslim women.  The life-styles and beliefs are not the same.  Of course this woman did not like hearing this, but this is the reality as told to us by Allah - not me.

Another woman jumped into the discussion saying that she thought Muslim men can marry any believer woman.  First of all, Christains are not believers - they are kafrs as told to us by Allah:

"They indeed have disbelieved (kafara) who say, `Surely Allah- He is the Messiah, son of Mary.' Say, `Who then has any power against Allah, if He desired to destroy the Messiah, son of Mary, and his mother and all those that are in the earth?' And to Allah belongs the Kingdom of the heavens and the earth and what is between them. He creates what He pleases and Allah has power over all things."
 - Quran 5:17

"They are unbelievers (kafara) who say, 'God is the Messiah, Mary's son.' For the Messiah said, 'Children of Israel, serve God, my Lord and your Lord. Verily whoso associates with God anything (innahu man yushrik biAllahi), God shall prohibit him entrance to Paradise, and his refuge shall be the Fire; and wrongdoers shall have no helpers."  - Quran 5:72

"Certainly they disbelieve (kafara) who say: Surely Allah is the third (person) of the three; and there is no god but the one God, and if they desist not from what they say, a painful chastisement shall befall those among them who disbelieve"  Quran 5:73

As I tried to explain to this misguided Muslimah, Allah says it is lawful for muslim men to marry the women of the people of the book but he places a condition on that which is - she must be chaste. Allah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“…(Lawful to you in marriage) are chaste women from the believers and chaste women from those who were given the Scripture (Jews and Christians) before your time when you have given their due Mahr (bridal-money given by the husband to his wife at the time of marriage), desiring chastity (i.e. taking them in legal wedlock) not committing illegal sexual intercourse, nor taking them as girlfriends…”

- Quran 5:5

So thus as I explained to the non- muslim woman - I dont make the laws, Allah does.  It is just my job to convey them when you ask. It is not the non-Muslim woman that saddens me but instead the Muslim woman who butted in.  It amazes me how so many muslims know nothing about islam.  It was the Muslim woman who had the nerve to refer to me as being a "racist" just because I had to correct her and tell her to let me handle answering the questions on the site because after all, I am the teacher.

For this sister and her husband who later joined, let me correct them both and ask where in islam does it state that just because someone knows more than you that makes them a racist?  Also how can a person be racist against a race that they belong to and where does islam prohibit usage of the word "garbage"?

The husband of the woman joined the site during the hadith class.  We were studying the hadiths from Riyadhus Saliheen and the hadiths were on the screen for everyone to see and read along with.  The husband asked about a hadith and I answered and gave him the source.. just because he had never heard of the hadith does not make me a racist either.. and for the record this man needs to know that there are many Muslims born into islam everyday around the world.  Just because I was not born in Jordan does not mean that I am a convert.

In the future I suggest the new people read about us and our website before joining:
http://sunnahfollowers.net/about/

Also understand that all teachers are more than qualified to do their jobs.

Finally, this website was made for Muslims - to call them back to their religion in its truthfulness based on Quran and authentic sunnah.  It is not a website for trying to convince non-muslims to believe in Allah. Non-Muslims are welcomed to attend, but we are not here to sale islam to them. If the non-Muslim woman from yesterday is interested in learning Islam she can join and listen in,  but we are not here to debate or sale our way of life.

As to the Muslim women and her husband, I strongly encourage and invite them both to  join the classes to learn more about their deen.

May Allah keep us all on the right straight path
