I went ahead and gave Jungle disk a try.  I have been looking at the best way to back-up financial information and the ever growing digital collection of family photo's.  So I decided to give this option a test.

So far it is taking a significant time to upload the initial 45GB of data.  Started the initial uploading process this past Friday evening, and as of last night there is still an estimated 12 days yet to go.  Though to be fair, I did restrict the bandwidth to 200/kbps upstream during the evening hours when I am at home and doing "other" things on the net.

We will see how it goes once all the data is uploaded and I see what my typical monthly charges are.

Thanks,
Jim

Robert,  use this link to get the discount:
https://www.jungledisk.com/secure/signup/promo.aspx?code=24C4C981

It will first lead you to create a Jungle Disk account.  Then it takes
you to Amazon.com, where you can login to your existing account or
create an account if you don't have one.  You will then be prompted to
pay the $10 to Amazon Payments with a credit card.

I have no way of knowing how many of my discounts have been used but
as
you're the first to show interest, I'm guessing you're the first.

Please let me know how it goes.

45GB's is a healthy test!

You can calculate an estimate of monthly charges here:
http://calculator.s3.amazonaws.com/calc5.html?

You can keep track of your actual Amazon AWS charges here:
https://aws-portal.amazon.com/gp/aws/developer/account/index.html

Once your your initial data is uploaded, you will probably save money
by adding the optional Jungle Disk Plus service. For $1 per month, JD
Plus allows block-level updates - uploading only the changed portions
of large files, and upload resume - the ability to resume uploads of
large files where they left off. http://www.jungledisk.com/plus.aspx

Keep us updated.

I have already upgraded to the Jungle Disk Plus Service mainly so that I have access to files through a browser.

I will keep you updated on how things are after the first month.

Jim, I'm guessing your August bill was between $8 - $10, depending on
how much data you move in and out. Right?

Jim,

Close it was $7.15  took forever to get the files moved over though.  Ended up being around 45GB total right now.

That's really cheap compared to other online storage. And though it
took you days to upload all the data, it didn't slow your Internet
performance appreciably, did it?

There wasn't a significant difference in my connection.  Now that everything is transferred I have it set to update each nite at 3:00AM.  Couldn't be easier and the price is right!
