This past summer, we witnessed an unprecedented action in Sarura at the
Sumud Freedom Camp when hundreds of human rights activists converged in the South Hebron Hills to fight for human rights and restore a Palestinian presence on the land.
Shulti, you were so inspired you donated $100 dollars knowing that your tangible donation was an important step in sustaining and expanding a growing movement.
The Sumud Freedom Camp isn’t just a space, it is a movement of justice that encompasses the entire spectrum of human rights and the full embodiment of justice.
We are organizing a tour this winter,
Dec 21 through Jan 3rd. Our goal is to organize a broad, diverse movement representing different religious leaders and civil rights activists to build a greenhouse in Um al-Khair and begin to work with other organization to develop an international advocacy campaign. We want to show the world that people from all spaces, from all religions and races, can unite for the realization of justice.
Um al-Khair is facing an existential threat. Nearly all their homes have pending demolition orders. They have faced nightly attacks from the settlers of Karmel on a nightly basis, despite Holy Land Trust and others trying to organize nightly protective presence.
In this email, I’ve attached two maps by the Israeli zoning and planning rights organization
Bimkom that monitors settlement expansion. One map shows the Karmel expansion nearly encircling the village of Um al-Khair, cutting them off from their historical grazing lands. This expansion will decimate their economy because their main source of income is their livestock. The second map, with the red dots, shows all the Palestinian homes with pending home demolition orders. Taken together, the existence of this community is under real threat.
For many, joining us, this is not an option. But for others, it is. And yet for another group people, there are those who want to come in stand in solidarity with the people of Um al-Khair, but cannot shoulder the full financial weight of airfare, travel, and lodgings.
When you made that donation on 5/23/2017, you did so knowing that it was an investment into a future altogether different than this one.
I am asking you to make a donation to this movement again, to support those who are willing to join this struggle in real ways. Can you help send a person here to be in Um al-Khair with us? Can you make the same financial commitment again of $100 dollars? If you can’t make that same investment, can give us $65 dollars?
Can you stay in solidarity with us during this crucial time? You can make that donation
here through Nonviolence International, who has been the fiscal sponsor of the Sumud Freedom Camp coalition.
