Today is the day people around the world participate in Earth Hour.
Earth Hour is an hour when everyone is asked to turn off all their
lights and some stop using any source of power. For Canadians its
today or tonight at 8pm til 9pm.
I was shocked last year by many who questioned this activity going on
around the world today, there thought it was a joke or prank of some
sort, even some who were or worked in media outlets apparently were
totally unaware of this event although it had been advertised and
mentioned on the net in many places.
So although a tad late to notify most of you today is the day we do
this. At 8pm EST for one hour.,
Hope you participate and enjoy what its like to just see the world
around you without electricity, gas or oil or whatever providing you
with lights etc.
It is after all only one hour out of our lives.

I posted about this in one of the computer groups I manage and maybe I
shouldn't have done it. But my original intent was to remind people
of this event and to hopefully get some comments from those members on
how it did or did not effect their computer life.
Well instead I got comments about the environment and how it should or
should not be thought about. I even got a former regular poster of a
group that most assumed he was the owner of saying it was
inappropriate to post it in the first place. I am still pondering
that one. But then I had two people one of whom I have communicated a
few times with and respected post what I thought was rather negative
which was a bit of shock to me and left me pondering again. Since I
am very good at opening my mouth and putting my foot inside it I
decided to wait a while before making a reply. Well the other person
who I know fairly well and communicate with more than I do most
people, replied to it and basically ripped apart the negativity of the
other person. Ok he does it in a funny or sarcastic type way. So
then I am pondering what to do about this since I respect them both
very much and ok likely biased towards the second one a tad. Well
true to his nature the second poster came back and apologised to the
first poster and then the first apologized to the second poster as
well. It seemed we were all reading each post slightly different than
what each poster had intended. So in the long run I left it alone.
And was very very proud of both of them for how they handled the
situation without any outside interference or remarks.
I thought it was a great example of how we can often assume what one
means but doesn't mean it quite that way or not at all that way and
how those involved can give civilized explanations and publicly
apology for what has happened and carry on as if it had not happened
in first place.
Mind you if you knew the two people involved it was actually quite fun
reading it all.
And yes I have just opened my mouth and inserted my foot again. I
tend to do this often even though it is very distasteful to do so but
had lead to my keeping my feet well cleaned at all times like granny
kept trying to drill into me for so many years.

Personally I think an hour a year is way too little to do and
personally I wish we could do this at least once a month but not
likely for the reasons some others would or would not choose. I tend
to be a bit selfish and just darn well love to see the landscape with
out lights and to look up into the sky and see all the stars and moon
and whatever is up there that night. It looks so totally different
and clean and fresh to me. Sort of what city folk think its like in
the country. I live in the country and trust me having all the lights
out is even better out here.
Its only an hour. A great time to take time out for an hour to look
around and see what you have missed and what you are great full for.
What do you think about it.
Personally I am going to start doing it every 1st day of every month
from now on.

See I told you I often open mouth and insert foot. But I am proud to
know you and count you as one of my best friends and one of the few
people I actually trust. And yah I hadn't thought of it that way but
yah I am glad I reminded you of it and I hope you never stop doing
such things.
Ok Ok I am giggling ok a lot more than that lmao.
thanks for being you.
I have some more rants coming up soon but this one was more of a rave
than a rant.

And I know some of you have lots of thoughts on this subject as well
as many others so out with it.
Come on rant about it or rave about it
Or just plain give us some advice on something you found useful and
think some of us might as well.
