This three day intensive training on implementing and maintaining a
1to1 laptop program will focus on the major areas to consider before
implementing a 1to1 program.  This seminar will be a mixture of
discussion, lecture, and hands-on activities.  The IT directors of GCA
and Madison Academy, which have both implemented successful 1to1
programs, will be co-hosting this seminar.  Information will cover
policies, staff involvement, and hardware and software issues which
need to be considered.  There will also be a focus on resources
available to SDA schools looking at going to a 1to1 laptop program.

Time will be spent looking at common features that are necessary for
a successful implementation.  Both Windows and Mac laptop deployments
will be discussed with attention given to software to secure and
manage the laptops, wireless, Internet, email, and SIS (student
information systems).  Discussions will include sharing observations
of what works and how 1to1 programs impact the teaching and school
environment as a whole.

Participants will receive a list of best practices and some hands-on
experience with wireless, laptops, and security.    Several options
will be described for monitoring and controlling software for both
Macs and PC’s.  Also, participants will learn the concerns and desires
parents and students have about a laptop program.

The seminar is designed for academy IT directors and principals to
gain an understanding of the issues that are common when implementing
a 1to1 laptop program.  The registration fee of $100 will cover the
cost of the printed materials, disposable materials, CD’s, and other
supplies needed for the hands-on training.
