Has anyone found a way to print a terrain model?
for example I wanted "an area", say from google maps, that I could somehow download the 3D mesh/terrain shape to import into maya?
I am on a mac - but could gain access to a PC if necessary.
I would really like to know the work flow.
i.e. - google earth, mark out area [somehow]
save file as kml
open file in xxxxx to convert to a .stl

etc

thanks in advance for any help

The biggest challenge is extracting the topography information into an STL.  Once you have (some kind of) 3D data, you're good to go with whatever conversion steps are necessary.
