to Adapted Physical Activity at the University of Florida
Hello fellow Adapted Physical Educators!
My name is Heidi Rollheiser and I am the assistant director for Camp
Abilities Alaska. I am searching for volunteers for our week long
developmental sports camp in Wasilla, Alaska that is held in July. The
dates are July 8-15th, 2006.
Camp Abilities Alaska is a developmental sports camp for youth who are
visually impaired, blind or deafblind. Activities include hiking,
swimming, beep baseball, goalball, track and field, kayaking, and
archery. We are looking for future adapted physical educators, special
education majors, and anyone with interest in working with youth and
want a great learning opportunity that can volunteer to be a counselor
for the week.
Camp is held at a lodge with cabins, a small lake and great Alaskan
views. The volunteers will learn how to teach youth who have a visual
impairment how to participate in sports and recreation and get to know
some great people. Some colleges have used this experience as
practicum hours toward a degree in adapted physical education or other
related fields.
We are asking if you would be interested in passing this information
along to your students. Please reply to this email for more
information or if you would like us to send brochures for your
students. I hope to hear from you soon!
Thank you for your time,
Heidi Rollheiser. C.A.P.E.
