Dear friends,

I'm pleased to announce that my picture book "The Legend of Slappy Hooper" has been awarded the 2024 Aesop Prize from the Children's Folklore Section of the American Folklore Society. Though I've been awarded the runner-up position several times, this is my first time for the top award!

The book is a reprint by my own Skyhook Press of my third-ever picture book, illustrated by Toni Goffe and published by Scribners in 1993. It retells an authentic American tall tale from Depression-era Chicago, collected by the Federal Writers' Project of the Works Progress Administration, about a sign painter whose signs are TOO good -- they keep coming to life!

Here are links to info and resources for the book.
