Dear friends,
Thirty years after its first publication, "The Legend of Slappy Hooper: An American Tall Tale" is returning to print in a brand-new edition.
This tall tale of a larger-than-life sign painter was developed as a companion piece to my ever-popular cowboy tall tale, "The Legend of Lightning Larry," with both picture books illustrated by the inimitable Toni Goffe. There’s one big difference, though: Larry’s tale was a totally original story of mine, while Slappy’s is retold from an authentic “urban folktale” of Chicago in the early 20th century.
Details are at

Slappy will be published in paperback and hardcover in February and is already available for pre-order. An advance reading copy of the book is available for free download and evaluation here:
