The next meeting of the Nanotechnology Cluster of Arizona will be held in Tucson on Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2016
Nano-sensing and Survival of the Most Aware
Bionanotechnology and the Zika Virus
Rapid global response to the sudden increase in cases of microcephaly following exposure to the Zika virus calls for wide mobilization of resources to understand and halt this process.
Talents in virology, public health, pediatrics and other health-related disciplines in Arizona are being linked to national and international resources including many in industry.
The next meeting of the Nanotechnology Cluster of Arizona to be held in the Conference Room of the Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering Building of the University of Arizona at 6 PM on Wednesday, February 24th will provide a forum for discussion.
Many individuals and groups of the local scene are at or near the cutting edge of new knowledge in areas that impact the processes involved in understanding the pathway (or pathways) of this disease process. There are ramifications for understanding the pathogenesis of multiple birth defects and the genetic and the virological-cellular biology mechanisms involved.
Individual presentations will need to be brief to bring together many pieces of this puzzle.
From preliminary discussions we are aware of resource groups examining the sampling techniques of mosquito populations, microscopy of viruses and virus particles, and the process of virus invasion into central nervous system cells. We have been reminded that this Flavivirus (+RNA virus, enveloped) is transmitted to humans through mosquito bite (probably Aedes agypti). After initial replication at the site of entry, viremia develops and the virus may be found in most body fluids and organs.
It will help to know in advance the names and focus of individuals who plan to attend and present material (5 minutes or less preferred)
Such that we all will profit optimally from this gathering.
The meeting begins at 5:45 pm with the speaker starting at 6 pm (same time and place as normal).
Please forward this to other interested parties! Remember the meeting is free and open to all.
