CJPP urges members, especially those of you who are ALP or trade union members, to attend this debate which is one of the ALP Conference Fringe events.
Peace, justice, reconciliation for Palestine & Israel.
WHAT THE AUSTRALIAN LABOUR MOVEMENT CAN PRACTICALLY DO.
5.30pm - 7pm, Thursday, July 30, 2009
Australian National Maritime Museum, 2 Murray St, Darling Harbour

The organisers advertise that it is "open to all National Conference delegates, ALP members and supporters."
Your presence is important to add to the voices calling for peace with justice for Palestine. There appears to be no doubt that the event is being set up to give the impression that issues relating to Palestinian and Israeli workers are on par with each other and to normalise the illegal Israeli occupation of Palestine and the illegal treatment of Palestinian workers. Debate chairman, Paul Howes,  recently helped start Trade Unions Linking Israel and Palestine (TULIP), to fight "boycott Israel" initiatives and "to challenge the apologists for Hamas and Hizbollah in the labour movement".

When unions back oppression

This event will be opened by Paddy Crumlin, National Secretary, Maritime Union of Australia, showing a short video about a  Palestine-Israel trade union project which the MUA is closely involved in through the International Transport Workers Federation AWU National Secretary, Paul Howes, will chair a 4-person panel discussion about peace, justice and reconciliation for Israel/Palestine. Speakers are advertised to be:

Ambassador Izzat Abdul Hadi, Head of the Palestinian General Delegation;
Mr Michael Danby, MP, active member of Parliamentary Friends of Israel;
Mr Robert Goot, President of the Executive Council of Australian Jewry;
Ms Janelle Saffin, MP, active member of Parliamentary Friends of Palestine
