'Shruti & Laya' is an evocative concert of Carnatic music being organised in Portland, USA, and aired across the world. Discover the beauty and intricacies of Carnatic music with Madhursmitha Chakravarty, Lavanya Madhavan and Hari Iyer, well known exponents of Carnatic music in Portland, Oregon.  Supporting Charity: Nityaasha Foundation 

 supporting children with Type-1 Diabetes.

ABOUT THE ARTISTES

Madhurasmitha Chakravarthy

Smitha is the granddaughter of celebrated musician Ganakalanidhi Dr. Vinjamuri Varadaraja Iyengar. Smitha has performed extensively across India. In the US, Smitha coaches over 80 vocalists and percussionists in Portland, under the Portland Balaji temple banner.

Lavanya Madhavan

Lavanya is a vocalist with training in Carnatic vocal music from an early age. She is currently taking advanced level training from Kalaimamani Smt. Vidya Subramaninan, a direct disciple of Lagudi Jayaraman. She is a graded artist of All India Radio, and has won many awards for music.

Hari Iyer

Hari Iyer is a young aspiring mridangist under the tutelage of world-renowned percussion maestro Sangeetha Kala Acharya Late Sri. T. H. Subash Chandran. Hari also plays the kanjira and saxophone, and is the recipient of several awards including the nationally recognized John Philip Sousa Award.

ABOUT THE COMPERE

Sandhiprakash Bhide is originally from Pune, and a resident of Beaverton, Oregon since 1984. He is the founder, coordinator and singer of 'Soor Aur Saptak' , a music group who have been using the power of music to generate funds for worthy causes. Bhide is the master mind and compere of this unique concert.
