SEC/IL QST080406 and ILARES HF Net 4/06/08 1630L 3.905 MHz LSB +/-
The next regularly scheduled Illinois Section ARES Net will be on this
first Sunday, April 06, 2008, at 4:30 PM local time on 3905 KHz, plus
+ or minus - for QRM. This is a regular on the air meeting of
Emergency Coordinators and their liaisons, including Official
Emergency Stations around the section. Roll call of the various
District and Local EC, or liaisons, is first made in the closed
portion of the net, and then brief local reports taken. Other net
members are encouraged to monitor this net. In the later open part of
the net that follows roll call, those who were not called may check in
by open call to test their HF station.

EC Note -
Monthly EC Reports were due April 2, 2008 for March. Last call for
late reports to meet the publishing deadline at the ARRL HQ.

ARES E-Letter -
March 20, 2008 issue note: ARRL EmComm Manager Dennis Dura, K2DCD has
an On Line Seminar April 19, and in particular this issue shows how
one Oregon station "got the message through" for his area. Copy the
Resources for ARES Ops there. Best issue yet.
ARES E-Letter of February 22, 2008 mentioned the earlier Illinois
Flooding Response, IL/WI tornado reports were among other responses
that were mentioned in The ARES E-Letter for February 22, 2008, sent
to subscribers who have signed up for this monthly newsletter by Rick
Palm K1CE of the ARRL at the Member's Only web page. This and past
issues may be viewed by others at:

Hospitals Region 1 POD -
John KC9IED is circulating a questionnaire by email among the ARES EC
and staff in their IDPH region about hospital support. As KC9IED is EC
of Winnebago County which hosts the regional hospital, he is taking on
this task to coordinate this region's hospital outreach for back up
communications via amateur radio. Thanks for this outreach, John.

APRS -
The packet network as many knew is past but new stations are coming on
line and others are undergoing a revitalization with WinLink 2000
Gateways and local packet nodes. Also remember, in public health, EOC
and hospital station support, the APRS mode one-line text messaging,
one-line email and use of APRSLink email via the existing APRS network
of stations and Internet Gateways were demonstrated to IDPH in
Springfield as one of the many ways amateur radio can "get the message
through" in last mile communications. Those who use voice exclusively
are encouraged to test and practice phonetic spelling of medical
terminology in requesting supplies over the air soon in their POD
hospital test nets to help understand why having digital modes also
available makes sense for the emergency. Add digital modes to your
ARES team skills, and cross train with net activities that challenge
linking from your own local area packet network.

QST/IL -
These QST are intended to be both an ILARES HF Net reminder and a
means to communicate news of interest in EmComm to the Illinois
Section ARES. With the delay being experienced heavy weekend email
traffic load, get another source of these QST/IL and review passed
releases at:

SITREPS -
Many amateur radio volunteers active in their Emergency Service
support roles, but few situation reports yet. Continued flooding and
long term recovery for many areas now of Southern Illinois and
adjacent sections. NE Illinois and NW Illinois already had their turn
at flood response. Are you Flood Ready?
