Multiple animal rights activists arrested attempting to break into Ridglan Farms

BLUE MOUNDS, Wis. — Multiple people were arrested trying to break into the Ridglan Farms' facility on Saturday afternoon.

The Dane County Sheriff’s Office said they responded to approximately 1,000 activists converging on Ridglan Farms in the town of Blue Mounds.

The facility is licensed as a breeder and research facility by both the state and the federal government, though it is slated to stop selling dogs by July 1.

The animal rights activists say that the dogs are being abused there.

The Dane County Sheriff put out a video statement Saturday saying it was “not a peaceful protest”. Officials said while some protestors remained peaceful, people who ignored verbal warnings with the clear intent to break into the facility were first met with tear gas as a deterrent and then pepper spray.
