URGENT:
Only one week into the new year, it happened again — as we have warned it would.
On Thursday a frightened carriage horse abandoned with no driver
bolted out of Central Park, tore through a four-way intersection at Sixth Avenue, and ran
directly into incoming traffic — crashing into vehicles. Witnesses said pedestrians had to run out of the way to avoid being trampled. It is a miracle no one was killed. Watch the shocking
video
HERE.
Horses are nervous prey animals, hardwired to bolt when frightened. Forcing them into Manhattan’s unsafe environment makes runaway crashes inevitable. This is reckless endangerment both for the public and for the horses.
These horses are desperate to run free on grass!
Sanctuaries and rescue farms are ready and waiting.
The New York Council has stalled for years, and Ryder’s Law never even received a hearing last term despite wide support. But now we have a new Mayor who has stated strong support for banning horse-drawn carriages, a new City
Council term, and a new Council Speaker, Julie Menin. This is our moment.

TAKE ACTION:
We also need your support more than ever.
NYCLASS is being sued by the carriage horse industry’s union in an attempt to silence us and shut us down. We will not back down — but we cannot do this without you.
📣 Join us Thursday, January 15 from 7 PM-9:30 PM for our NYCLASS fundraiser party in NYC.
Get
your tickets HERE. It will be a fun night of comedy, music, performances and yummy food and drinks.
Your support can help make 2026 — the Year of the Horse — the year these horses are finally freed!
Enough is enough. Let’s get this done.
With gratitude,
Edita Birnkrant
