(NewsNation) — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has taken new action to eliminate animal testing across the country.
The agency announced earlier this week its updated list of alternative test methods to replace New Approach Methods (NAMs). EPA officials introduced a new streamlining process for researchers, companies, and other stakeholders to nominate NAMs for consideration in pesticide and chemical assessments.
The EPA hopes the two steps can help meet the goal of eliminating all animal testing by 2035.

"When the Trump Administration makes a commitment, we deliver," EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin said in a news release. "With today's announcement, we're accelerating the shift to modern, gold standard science — without the use of animal testing — by using new, innovative methods to review chemicals."
Last year, the EPA implemented the first-ever lab animal adoption program.
The agency also used alternative scientific methods to animal testing in its cancer evaluations for dibutyl phthalate for the first time. The method helped spare an estimated 1,600 mice and rats from undergoing lab experiments.
The EPA's announcement comes just months after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced its elimination of all "unnecessary testing" on animals.
