Hello Silicon Valley sisters!

Wanted to share the latest updates from NAPAWF's DC office about developments in the immigration reform discussions in the Senate, below. I also encourage folks to take 2 minutes to sign the petition at the end of the email calling upon key Senators (including Senator Feinstein) to make sure immigration reform is fair for women.

Thanks!

Priya

Subject: One Step Closer...Immigration Policy Reform Moves Forward

Dear Friends,

On Tuesday, our country moved one step closer to reforming our outdated immigration law when the Senate Judiciary Committee approved the bi-partisan immigration bill created by the Gang of 8. For months, we’ve made calls, met with policy makers, talked to media, and mobilized women across the country to get to this moment.

The bill includes positive provisions that recognize the contributions of millions of aspiring citizens—the majority of whom are women—including provisions for survivors of domestic violence, a roadmap that is accessible for domestic workers and care-takers, and all DREAMers. We are disappointed, however, that the committee excluded family visas for siblings and adult children older than 30, failed to give aspiring citizens health equity, and did not recognize LGBT couples.

But it’s not over yet, and we’re going to keep on fighting!

Now, the bill moves forward to being heard by the entire Senate, and the House will be creating its own bill. As the legislative process moves ahead full steam, NAPAWF will remain engaged with policy makers and continue to advocate to ensure that the final bill keeps all families together, protects the health and well-being of AAPI women, and provides an attainable citizenship process for all.

As this process continues, we’ll need to keep the pressure on and the noise loud. Right now, you can raise your voice for immigrant women by signing this petition to make immigration reform fair for women.

Thank you for standing with us. Together, we stand on the right side of history.

In Solidarity,

The NAPAWF Team
