Greetings:
USCIS has announced that it is proceeding with its proposed fee increase for most immigration applications. The final rule will be published in the Federal Register tomorrow (May 30), and will take effect on Monday, July 30. Despite all of our comments and the overwhelmingly negative response to the USCIS’ proposal from February, the final rule is largely the same as what USCIS proposed. The cost to file for citizenship will rise 70%, from $400 to $675. Green card applications will go up from $395 to $1,010, with limited availability for fee waivers.
This fee increase calls attention to the need for Congressional oversight and action. Please urge your members of Congress to support the Citizenship Promotion Act (S. 795/ H.R. 1379), which would roll back this increase, require USCIS to revisit its fee methodology and urge the agency to not burden immigrants with costs not related to their applications.
Attached are USCIS’ press release, Q&A, and fee schedule, along with ICIRR’s statement and a summary of the Citizenship Promotion Act. Thanks.
