Dear Friends,

As you know, the California Senate Public Safety Committee is scheduled to vote on the TRUST Act (AB 1081) tomorrow, Tuesday, June 14th as soon as 9:30AM.  Thanks to all those who have participated in legislative visits to prepare for this hearing.  Based on our visits, it looks like we have two Democratic Senators who could use more calls in support of the bill in order to get their yes vote.  Please take a few minutes today to send e-mails or make calls to ask for support of the TRUST Act.  Here's the contact info and a suggested message.

Suggested Message:

“Hi, my name is __________________. On behalf of _____ (org name) [if applicable:  and as a resident of ______], I'm calling to ask Senator ______  to support the TRUST Act, AB 1081 by Assemblymember Ammiano.

  • This bill improves public safety and brings needed transparency to a troubled immigration program that was forced on our state.
  • The bill protects domestic violence survivors and other crime victims from being trapped in a deportation dragnet, honors the right of local governments to opt-out of the so called "Secure" Communities program, and sets safeguards for governments that choose to participate.
  • The bill has the support of the Los Angeles Times, the State Labor Federation, the California partnership to end domestic violence, Sheriffs Hennessey and Prieto, and over 70 organizations statewide.

AB 1081 is going to be voted on tomorrow, June 14th by the Senate Public Safety Committee.  Can I count on the Senator to vote yes?  Thank you. ”

Thank you.
Angela
