Continuing the Fight Against E-Verify: Sign On to Oppose Today

Forces in Congress are looking to mandate the highly flawed and discriminatory E-Verify electronic work authorization program. E-Verify is guaranteed to hurt US workers and businesses alike. Please join us in opposing these efforts by signing your organization on to this sign on letter. To sign on, fill out this online form.

Background:

HR 2164 "The Legal Workforce Act" authored by Representative Lamar Smith (R-TX), would mandate the use of the E-Verify system for all employers across the nation. E-Verify is an outright job killer and threatens the prosperity of California and our nation by forcing employers to comply with a system that is inherently flawed and discriminatory. California and the nation need a complete overhaul of our immigration system, not expensive piecemeal deportation strategies.

With the exception of federal contractors, E-Verify is currently an optional program. As home to millions of businesses and workers, California cannot afford to implement a program that is both costly and flawed. Assemblymember Paul Fong (D-Cupertino) has authored the Employment Acceleration Act of 2011 (AB 1236), which would insure that city, county and state governments cannot mandate the use of E-Verify on private business owners. AB 1236 is moving swiftly through the California Legislature and is awaiting a Senate floor vote. Moving forward a federal E-Verify mandate when California so clearly does not want to participate would be a mistake.
