Subject: APALC Sign on Request for Stop The Deportation Rally?
To: Michelle Baik <mb...@apalc.org>, Karin Wang <kw...@apalc.org>, Connie Choi <cc...@apalc.org>

Michelle, Karin & Connie,

We are organizing a rally next week for Doug & Alex, a same-sex binational couple from Cathedral City, who is facing deportation hearing.

Doug and Alex, are legally married in California - but Alex is facing deportation because the federal government is not recognizing their marriage and they have a court hearing on the 13th July at 9am.

You can read more of their stories here:

Out4Immigration, Marriage Equality USA and GetEQUAL is organizing a rally the morning of their court hearing in support of them and to urge the federal government to stop all deportations and stop denying green card applications of same-sex binational couples.

I am wondering if APALC would be a organization supporter of the rally?  And if you could help us spread the news about the rally in San Francisco to your members as well as urge them to sign the petition on change.org in support of their case, to stop the deportations!

Information about the rally can be found here:  https://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=137721729636137

The petitions that we have started for Doug and Alex can be found here:  http://bit.ly/dougalex

We have made historic advancement in this issue since March of this year when President Obama decided not to defend DOMA and yesterday the federal government just dismissed a case against Henry Velandia.  (http://www.nytimes.com/2011/06/30/us/30immig.html)

We need to keep the momentum going and ensure that no families get torn apart by this unjust and discriminatory law.

Let me know if APALC is able to be a supporting organization of the rally!

Thank you!

Regards,
