Last night a member of our church, Shakur (age 17) was shot in the hand and leg. I just left the hospital where he is in good spirits and will be moving out of the ICU.
It will be a long recovery for him. Right now he has a 50% chance of regaining use of his leg. He lost a lot of blood and it could have been much much worse.
Shakur shared with me that as he was coming in and out of consciousness he could hear the words of the motivational song from Freedom School, "Something inside so strong." "Pastor Steve," he said to me "I could hear the whole church singing with me."
His mom Rikki and family have asked for prayers. Please join me in honoring that request:
God of power, we thank you for watching over your servant Shakur. We thank you for giving him safety and your spirit of protection. Lord continue to heal and strengthen him. Give him peace in his mind and spirit and renew his strength.
Lord God we pray for peace in our streets and our lives. Help us beat swords into plowshares and guns into garden tools. Let your peace come.
In the strong name of Jesus we pray.
