There is a myth that states that one year of your animals age is seven
years - but this is not true. Your pets true age is affected by
several factors of which animal type, size and breed, are but a few.
In addition, your Mals longevity will depend on things such as
genetics, nutrition and lifestyle.
Larger dogs, such as the Alaskan Malamute, age more quickly than
smaller dogs - large breed dogs are considered senior around 5 years
of age, whilst smaller breeds are only considered senior when they
reach 7.
According to one school of thought, the first year of a pets life is
equivalent to approximately 15 human years, and two pet years are
equal to about 24 human years. After that initial period, each year
for a pet is roughly four human years.
Below is a table with estimate comparisons for the large breeds.
Generally, the onset of old age occurs for most animals between the
ages of five and seven, some even consider it to be at 6 years.
