Jamshedpur, Dec 26 (PTI) Altogether 42 students of a polytechnic
institute at Mango were arrested today after they put up a road
blockade to protest against cancellation of their examination, the
police said. Students Al-kabir Polytechnic College at Mango, who had
been to their examination centre in Ghatsila, about 45 kms from here,
were to appear for the third semester examination to be conducted by
State Technical Board but it was cancelled, the sources said. As the
current session was running behind schedule, cancellation of
examination infuriated the students, who assembled at Mango chowk on
their return and put up road blockade disrupting the busy road traffic
for over an hour. The road traffic was restored only after the police
intervened and rounded up 42 students, police sources said. The
Institute authorities said the incident had nothing to do with them as
the examination was to be conducted by the State Technical Board. A
notice announcing cancellation of the examination was given by the
State Technical Board yesterday but many of the students had missed
it, the Institute authorities said.
