AKMS Swimmers at Fina World Championships in Budapest

Three swimmers, Rick Abbott, Daniel Blake and Ruth Carter, from SWAM represented Alaska Masters Swimming in Budapest. A fourth swimmer from Alaska attended the meet, however chose to represent his native South Africa. All three swimmers set new state long course meters (LCM) records. 

Rick Abbott (60-64) was on the podium for all five of his events, setting new state records in all of them. 

  50 free -     26:53 8/17/2017 - 2nd 
100 free -     59.66 8/15/2017 - 2nd
200 free -  2:15.47 8/16/2017 - 3rd
100 back - 1:11.16 8/19/2017 - 3rd
  50 fly    -     28:78 8/16/2017 - 2nd

Daniel Blake (70-74) set new state records in four of his five events (Ron Taylor still holds the record in the 50 breastroke). He placed in the top ten.

100 breast -  1:41.74 8/15/2017
200 breast -  3:57.68 8/19/2017
200 IM       -  3:42.98 8/17/2017
400 IM       -  8:24.70 8/16/2017 - 10th!

Ruth Carter (55-59) also set state records in four of her five events (Colny Tucker still holds the record for the 800 free).

100 breast -  1:39.52 8/15/2017
200 breast -  3:39.92 8/19/2017
200 IM       -  3:23.33 8/17/2017

We had great support our cheering squad: Rick's wife Hope, Daniel's son Ian and our friend Pelk. And enjoyed fine Hungarian hospitality.
