Hi there,

My name is Divya Tewari, and I’m a Program Coordinator at the International Women’s Media Foundation. We have launched applications for the 2024 Courage in Journalism Awards, and I am inviting you to nominate a woman or nonbinary journalist who has set themselves apart by exhibiting extraordinary bravery, persistence and resilience.

The awards program honors brave journalists – including photojournalists – working in any country across the world. They report on taboo topics, immerse themselves in hostile environments and share difficult truths. In addition, they demonstrate a commitment to press freedom and often overcome unjust conditions online and offline to become leaders in their industry.

Our 2023 Courage in Journalism Award winners were the Women of the Washington Post reporting on Ukraine (US), Shireen Abu Akleh (Palestine/US – posthumous), María Teresa Montaño Delgado (Mexico), and Yalda Moaiery (Iran).

Candidates for the Courage in Journalism Awards must be full-time staff or freelance women or nonbinary reporters, writers, editors, photographers or producers working in any country and of any nationality. In particular, we are seeking nominations of journalists who are detained, jailed or imprisoned for the Wallis Annenberg Justice for Women Journalists Award.

Applications are available in English, Spanish, and French, and due by March 3, 2024. We do not accept self-nominations.

Please let us know if you have someone in mind for this award. If you could share this opportunity with your network, we would appreciate it. Below, I have included a sample tweet you can use to promote the award.

Nominations for the @IWMF's Courage in Journalism Awards are open through March 3.

The global awards honor women & nonbinary #journalists who hold power to account, work in hostile environments & reveal difficult truths. Learn more and submit a nomination: https://bit.ly/CourageNominations24

Feel free to reach out with any questions.

Thank you,

Divya Tewari
