Hey all,
Some listening tips:
While my son very well with his cochlear implants, he still faces some challenges in situations with lots of people, and
with the sound coming over loudspeaker. There are several local events that we would like to attend, where this is exactly
the situation, and he would benefit from the knowledge of available hearing devices, telecoil loops, etc. I imagine that
this is the same for many of us.
One such event coming up is the Mormon Miracle Pageant (aka Manti Pageant) in Manti, Jun 17-19 and Jun 22-26, 9:30 pm.
I have discovered that the pageant broadcasts its signal on the FM radio band for use by backstage personnel. This
signal is available throughout the viewing area. This means that my son can take his mp3 player that has a radio tuner in it,
tune to the right signal, plug in his NoizFree iNoiz cable (plugs in like normal headphones, with hooks that transmit via
telecoil to his implants:
http://www.tecear.com/Noizfree_iNoiZ-Music.htm) and hear the direct signal.
Right now the signal is expected to be broadcast on 105.1, but that may change - check with the sound and lighting booth
in the middle of the viewing area when you get there for confirmation of frequency.
This same cable works perfectly with the "hearing devices" available at LDS meetinghouses - each Sunday he picks up his
receiver (receives a direct signal from the microphone) plugs in his telecoil wire, and hears a cleaner signal than I do.
(Note that some of the older receivers available are mono, not stereo... be sure to get one of the newer ones if bilaterally
aided) I'm not sure if other denominations provide similar devices - check with the leader of your congregation or library.
Now it's your turn:
Please share other tips you have discovered that make hearing in these certain situations easier.
