Anything done to block the Internet is due to recent Sup Ct of Pakistan
order--they will be hearing additional arguments on this in the next
week. So get the word out. Any Pakistani lawyer is requested to
straighten out the facts in the above article; English language links
are limited.

I think there is something missing here. What I have heard is that
supereme court didn't order PTA to block websites, Instead SC issued an
observation. What no one has noticed so Far is the fact that Jylland
Posten's website is accessible from Pakistan (at least the two ISP that
I use didnt block it). In one of these cases Jylland Posten is accused
for blasphemy. So we are actually in complete darkness we don't really
know what Supereme Court said on that particular day different
newspapers reported the news differently. Jang Reported that it was an
observation, Dawn reports that SC ordered, the wikipedia that some of us
are working on states that SC directed. If I am not mistaking these
words are different legal terms. I also heard that PTA was asked to
REVIEW technical possibilities and make sure that no technical
difficulty becomes an excuse. So whoever is preparing the wikipedia page
should make sure that the article is accurate.

and maybe find a copy of the original Order. From looking around, there
is a lot of info on the Internet in Pakistan, and a fair amount of
transparency. In short, I don't think the Court's Order is
inaccessible, I just don't think its in English. Becauise those of us
limited to English can't access the operative documents, we can't make
any determination as to what was Ordered and what, in effect, was what
lawyers term "obiter dicta," which principally expresses viewpoints.
That is a real handicap. The English news reports are sparse, and show
limited understanding of the law. In short, we have a handle on the
situation, but we don't have any difinitive answer. Daniel, could you
review the wikipedia page for accuracy and add your understanding of
the situation there? What is there represents what is on the Internet.
So stay calm, folks, and proceed to educate people on the value of the
Internet in general.

Federal Supreme court, all business is conducted in English.
