| A Free Public Lecture by Anna Russell, Vicky Feng & Dr Regan Potangaroa

| During the term break Anna (4th year B.Arch student) and Vicky
| (B.Arch graduate) went to India to work with tsunami victims in Tamil
| Nadu (Southern India) and Andaman Nicobar Islands (ANI), in a trip
| facilitated by ScALA Associate Professor Dr Regan Potangaroa. In this
| seminar about architectural responses to humanitarian crises, Regan will
| firstly outline the context of the work then Anna and Vicky will present
| insights from their experiences in a role that included:

| 1) The setting up of a baseline study to assess the change in
| the quality of life of beneficiaries due to the housing intervention.
|
|
|
| 2) The development of plans and architectural changes to the
| standard detached house designed by the Government, which better fits
| the demographics of beneficiary families.
|
|
|
| 3) Assessing informal modifications of houses by beneficiaries
| against the 10 housing patterns of Jacobson.
|
|
