Monday's paddle

This Monday we'll be paddling on the Chemung River.  We did this last year and found it to be lot's of fun.  We'll meet at botchers Landing boat launch and fishing access at 9:30AM.  This should give us time to shuttle cars and be on the water about 10:00.  The water level is about the same as last year and the weather looks great!! We'll be paddling with the current, we'll be stopping along the way for lunch so be sure to bring a lunch! We'll be paddling on the river and there could be rocks and other obstructions, so you might want to consider what boat you'll bring.  Personally, I'll be bringing what I call "a tupperware boat" - I think you know what I mean. 

Bring hydration, lunch, snacks if you want to nibble along the way, your PFD and boating supplies and a change of clothing for "just in case". We don't think there are bathroom facilities at either site but I'm sure there must be bushes!!!  You're welcome to give a call if you have any questions.  

I'll include directions coming from the north, but you might just want to use your map program.  You're heading for Bottcher's Landing Boat Launch in Big Flats. 

Non ADK members are welcome to join us but new regulations encourage folks to become members after participating in 2 outings.  ADK-GVC.org   

Directions coming from the north: 

Take Rt. 390 south to I-86 East

From I-86 East take exit 48 

From Exit 48 take Route 352 East and go for 1.5 miles

Turn right on south Corning Road (Chemung County Rt 10) and go .2 miles 

Turn left at the Bottchers Landing Chemung River Fishing Access Site sign (before the bridge over the river) 

(I believe it's a dirt road back to the parking area) 

Directions from Botchers Landing Boat Launch (Big Flats) to Grove St.Boat Launch (Elmira): 

    From the driveway at Botchers Landing turn right onto South Corning St. and go .2 miles 

    Turn right onto Route 352 East and go 8.9 miles to Grove St. (Elmira) 

    At Grove St. turn right at the Chemung River Fishing Access Site sign and go .2 miles 

    Over the berm to the parking area next to the river.  

    (This is for the shuttle - we'll try to keep cars together but "just in case" )

    

 

Directions from Grove Street Launch back to Bottcher's Landing 

 From the access site take Grove St to Rt. West, turn left and .1 mile to Hoffman St.

  Turn right onto Hoffman St. and go   .1 mile to West Church St. 

 TUrn left onto West Church St. and take it to the intersection with Route 352 West 

  Follow 352 W to South Corning Rd. And turn Left on South Corning Rd

  Go .2 miles and take a left at the Bottchers Landing Fishing Access Site sign.

          This is for return to our put in after the paddle - again, we'll try to keep our cars                   together but just in case

       A car gets waylaid at a light or something!!!
