Hi Everyone,

We are looking for several ACT juniors (born 2004 or after) with Australian Chess Federation rapid ratings of around 500 or above to compete in a Zoom supervised online team tournament against the South Australian Junior Chess League (SAJCL) this Sunday (20th February).

The tournament will be a six round event with  a 15+5 time control. The state/territory which scores the most number of points at the conclusion of Round 6 will be declared the winner. There are no prizes, but participants will gain valuable experience playing strong juniors whom they wouldn't normally encounter in local events.

Due to ACT players dropping out, there are several places currently available in this event.

Our current ACTJCL team is comprised of players with ACF rapid ratings between 500-1800, with two-thirds of the team rated 1300+

ACT team members will need to be on Zoom at 12.30pm on Sunday 20th February for a 1pm start, with a finish of approximately 5.30pm-6pm.

The tournament will be played on Tornelo.

Entry is free, although juniors must be 2022 financial members of the ACT Junior Chess League (join herehttps://www.trybooking.com/BWJUQ). You can check to see if you/your child is a current ACTJCL financial member here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1uXL_kUKaXb28osNEC44IG7_wFpcuOwfOOA3-c5zvKYc/edit#gid=0

Important Information
Players who enter must commit to playing all six rounds. Because there must be an even ratio of ACT to South Australian players, if an ACT player drops out prior to or during the event, then a South Australian player will also have to drop out.

Players must play their games on a computer, not an phone nor tablet. Using touchscreens is prohibited.

Players must be on Zoom with their camera turned on, their microphone unmuted and sharing their screen whilst playing games. This measure is to ensure that no cheating occurs during games.

Players should be alone in a room whilst playing games. Just like in an over-the-board tournament, family members should not present in the room, nor be entering the room and attempting to speak with them whilst games are in progress.

This is an ACT representative event and should be treated seriously. This means turning up on time, playing all rounds and behaving respectfully towards opponents. If players can't do this, we will be less inclined to invite them to future ACT and national representative events.

How to Enter
If your child has an ACF rapid rating of 500 and above and is firmly committed to playing in this event, please send me an email (secr...@actjcl.org.auwith their name and ACF rapid rating. For parents who are unsure about their child's rating, I've included a current ACF rapid ratings list at the end of this email.

Thanks,

Kate
Secretary, ACT Junior Chess League
