Hi All

In this email:
  • Under 12/14 Championships 13 December 2020 (flyer attached)
  • Summer Boot Camp Mon 18 - Thurs 21 January 2021 (flyers attached)
Under 12/14 Championships - 13 December 2020 (combined event - flyer attached)

Don't miss out on our last event of the year. After careful consideration, the ACTJCL has opted to run the Under 12/14 Championships in place of our usual end of year transfer event. Unlike previous years, we have decided to combine the tournaments to allow our juniors the opportunity to compete for the ACT Under 12 and Under 14 titles.

This event is suitable for all eligible players who can confidently move the chess pieces around the board. Chess Clocks will be used. Participants in the event will range from potential grandmasters to (almost) complete novices. All players compete for all rounds (unless byes occur). Nobody is “eliminated” during the day.

A minimum of seven rounds will be played with each player having 15 minutes to complete their moves (maximum game time 30 minutes). At the completion of the final round, trophies will be presented to Best Under 14, Best Under 12, 2nd, 3rd, Rating Group Prizes and Best UNR.  All children will receive a participation ribbon.

We look forward to seeing you at the final event of the year.

Coaching and Lightning - Monday 18 January 2021

At the Summer Boot Camp – Chess Coaching and Lightning day, players will have a morning of top quality coaching from some of Canberra’s best coaches. Coaching will take place in ability-based groups over 3 x 1 hour sessions. The afternoon is taken up by a fun event “Lightning”.

Allegro - Tuesday 19 January 2021

This tournament caters to all standards of play and is suitable for all eligible players who can confidently move the chess pieces around the board. Chess Clocks will be used but you don’t need to write down your moves. Participants in the event will range from potential grandmasters to (almost) complete novices. All players compete for all rounds (unless byes occur). Nobody is “eliminated” during the day. All children who can confidently make all the basic moves of chess are encouraged to participate, especially those players intending to play in the upcoming ACT Juniors.

Long Time Control Tournament Wednesday 20 - Thursday 21 January 2021

ACTJCL 2021 Summer School Holiday Chess Frenzy - Boot Camp L T tournament is a two-day rated event for players born on or after 1 Jan 2001, played with long time controls (60 + 10s) on Wed 20th Jan & Thurs 21st Jan 2021 at Campbell High Library. Don’t miss out! This Boot Camp Tournament is an excellent opportunity to practice and warm up (plus catch up with friends) for any players participating in the upcoming 2021 ACT Championship – or even if you’re not – this fun event is for you!

Players are expected to record moves but if your child has never recorded moves before or has never played long time control games of chess in a competitive environment, please let us know and we’ll provide some instructions for practice prior to the tournament. Please contact us to discuss the format if you are at all unsure.

Thanks

Emma

Thanks
