Results 2024 ACT Junior Chess Winter Bootcamp

Thank you to everyone who participated at the ACT Junior Chess Winter Bootcamp during the first week of the school holidays. Over the course of the week, our juniors had the opportunity to have coaching and compete in various competition formats. The tournaments were competitive across the week, with consistent performances displayed by Owen MacMullin and brothers Olaoluwa and Olamide Fasakin. 

I’d like to thank our wonderful helpers and our superb coaches and arbiters, including Aden Power, Shaun Press and Shriya Karthik. As usual, I’d like to thank Campbell High for hosting us and allowing us to use their library, and of course our wonderful juniors who kindly helped pack up at the end of the events. 

The list of prize winners is below and the standings from the events is attached. Congratulations to everyone who participated and hope to see you at our next event.

Boot Camp Blitz (5 minutes each)

Norths Term 3 2024  

Norths Term 3 resumes on Friday 26 July at Radford College (Room R0G01). If you are interested in joining, please register your child(ren) via the following link https://www.trybooking.com/CTOXH. If your child participated Norths Term 2 2024, I will send you a separate email (if you don't receive this within 24 hours, please contact me directly). 

The schedule is as follows and the club runs during the Public School Term:

4:00-4:15pm	Participants arrive and can play social games (if they wish). Please do not drop children off before 4pm without adult supervision and ensure that one of the adult coaches is there before you leave your child.
4:15-5:00pm	Group coaching (children are grouped according to ability level and/or age)
5:00-5:45pm	Children are paired against each other and when their games are finished they participate in the puzzle competition. Children are picked up at 5:45pm.

Fees​

Term fees for North Junior Chess Club is $120 per child. In addition to joining the club, all participants need to be an ACT Junior Chess League member. The ACTJCL membership fee is $15 for individuals or $20 for family (ie more than one player).  

Registrations now open for the ANU Open/Minor 2024 

Please find below information regarding the ANU Open and Minor event, which is scheduled for 26-28 July. The event is open to adults and juniors. The event will be split into two events and we would encourage our more experienced juniors to participate. The event will require players to record their moves, so if your child hasn't participated in a long time control tournament we would encourage you to try out our Boot Camp events first.

Time Control	60m+30s inc (FIDE Rated except for players 2400+)
Schedule	Friday 26th July: Round 1 at 7PM Saturday 27th July: Round 2 at 10am, Round 3 at 2pm, Round 4 at 6pm Sunday 28th July: Round 5  10am, Round 6 at 2pm, Prize giving at 6pm
Entry Fee:	$80 ($60 concession) - GM, IM, WGM and WIM Free
Prizes:	$1000 1st Open, $400 1st Minor $3600 in total
