2023 Autumn Boot Camp Results

To conclude the action-packed month of chess in the ACT, the ACT Junior Chess League hosted the Autumn Boot Camp in the second week of the school holidays. For some juniors, this was their third straight week of competing in major events (Doeberl Cup and Oceania Junior Chess Championships) and yet they still had plenty of enthusiasm and energy which was great to see.  Our juniors had the opportunity to get coached by some of ACT's best coaches and engage in various formats of tournament play. I want to thank our wonderful coaches, including Shaun Press and Jamie-Lee Guo and all participants who joined us for the week.

Over the course of the four days, there was a consistent group of top performers and a special mention goes to Masaki Horikawa, Oscar Wu, Olamide Fasakin, Olaoluwa Fasakin, Owen MacMullin and Scott Hancock for being our most consistent performers. The full standings from the events can be found attached to this email.

I'd like to make a special note of thanks to Campbell High School for being such great hosts and the wonderful parent volunteers who helped make all these events possible.

Make sure you check out the ACTJCL 2023 Calendar to ensure you don't miss any of our future events https://actjcl.org.au/actjcl/calendar.php.

FIDE World Chess Championships

The 2023 FIDE World Championships is taking place in Kazhakstan between GMs Ian Nepomniachtchi and Ding Liren. The winner of the best of 14 matches will take the title over the GM Magnus Carlsen who opted to not participate in the event this year. After 9 games, the score is currently 4-5 in favour of GM Ian Nepomniachtchi (first to 7.5 wins the match) The matches are being played at 1900 AEST and has a range of options to watch the games with commentary from some of the world's best. I encourage everyone to tune into the range of broadcast options, such as the Chess.com coverage (with adult supervision).

Kind regards
Emma
