Thank you to everyone who participated at the ACT Junior Chess Autumn Bootcamp during the first week of the school holidays. Over the course of the week, our juniors had the opportunity to have coaching and compete in various competition formats.
I’d like to thank our wonderful helpers and our superb coaches and arbiters, including Shaun Press, Ian Hosking, Shriya Karthik and Shakthi Karthik. As usual, I’d like to thank Campbell High for hosting us and allowing us to use their library, and of course our wonderful juniors who kindly helped pack up at the end of the events.

2024 ACT Junior Chess Rapid Championship - Sunday 12 May
Last Sunday, the ACTJCL hosted the annual ACT Junior Chess Rapid Championships at Campbell High School. The tournament featured 30 participants from across the Canberra region. The tournament was very competitive, with many games finishing with both players having seconds left on the clock. At the end of the tournament, Olaoluwa Fasakin finished the tournament with outright first with an impressive 6/7 and was closely followed by Nicholas Lee on 5.5/7. We had a remarkable number of players finishing the event with 5/7 who ended up securing a title, though unfortunately on tiebreak Isaac Eldridge just missed out on a prize. A special mention also goes to Nicholas Markham, who played in his first ACTJCL event and finished the tournament with 4/7 and a performance rating of 1188!
