Do you offer a classics book discussion program?  I’m interested in learning more about how libraries conduct these programs whether in the library or out in community settings.

Background: I coordinated a classics book club at a public library for several years. I am now informally gathering information with the goal of using what worked for me—and what works in other libraries—to develop a potential professional development workshop or other learning forum to encourage the formation of more classics book clubs.

Email or phone chat: Feel free to email me. My question prompts are below. I’d also be happy to jump on a brief 10–15-minute call if that works better.

Thank you for your consideration!

Best,
Dorothy Stoltz

Discussion Prompts:

·        Where do you meet? In the library or at a community setting, such as a county detention center, bookstore, church, or other?

·       How do you define “classic”?  How are titles selected?

·       Why offer a classics discussion program? Do you have regulars?

·       Do you combine teens and adults? How is that going — do you have a mix of ages?

·       Any interesting stories to share about the group discussions or how participants may be benefiting?

·       What are your top three tips for a library considering starting a classics program?
