Good morning, all! 

We are looking to replace our book mobile with a sprinter van. We are still in the very early stages, I need to provide a ballpark estimate to see if it could be covered by LSTA money this coming FY by tomorrow. I know that a few of you either just made a purchase or are further along in the process, could you please share the cost?

We purchased a Mercedes Sprinter 3500 in November of 2023, it cost roughly $200K for the entire build out.

We purchased a Mercedes sprinter in 2021 and it went for $225K.  Unless you have a good working relationship or multiple Mercedes dealers in your area, or your city garage has experience working with Mercedes/German vehicles, I would strongly suggest going with the Ford version, if you have the option.  

The Fords are a less expensive, are a bit sturdier, and easier to repair.

We made the decision to purchase a new vehicle and manage the extras separately, and while this was more work on our end, our 2025 Ram ProMaster 3500 extended, high roof cargo van (similar to a Transit or Sprinter), plus lift gate, ACORE shelving and installation, and wrap, came out to around $100,000.

You bet!

We're very happy with what we received. About 55K went for the vehicle, which includes safety package, flooring, and running board, but no other bells and whistles. 45K was divided between the lift, ACORE shelving (double-sided book truck, compu-truck, two wall huggers, and shelving (with extra shelves for modularity)) + installation, and wrap (yet to be applied). 

Note: we are not a walk-on bookmobile. We host lobby stops, deliver collections, and make homebound visits, among other services.
