Hello everyone!

We have tried a few different types of A-Frame Open Signs for our vehicles and cannot seem to find the perfect solution. Our aluminum signs broke after a few months, our current plastic signs get blown over too easily by the wind, and others have been too heavy to routinely move on and off the vehicles. Does anyone have something they swear by? Or is there a better way to communicate that you are open? We do also have a blinking LED sign, but you can only see that on one side of the vehicle.

Thanks so much,

Hi Dani,

We have a plastic heavy duty sandwich board sign we use for that purpose. It is a bit heavy but staff helps each other out and rotate when they have to move it on and off the vehicle. We also have a table outside of the vehicle when the weather allows for it and that seems to draw people's attention. Below are some photos. Hope that helps!

Hello,

We have one of those tall teardrop shaped flags on a stand that I put out at every stop. It just says "BOOKMOBILE", but I think the fact that it's outside the van helps signify that we're open.

The stand came with a donut shaped water bag for weight, which leaked immediately. Since then, I've propped a traffic cone or two on it to hold the stand down in case of wind, which is fine. On REALLY windy days, I kind of wedge the stand under the front wheel of the van. That seems to work, and otherwise it's very easy to set up the flag at each stop

Hope this helps!
Jamie

Hi Jamie,

I'm looking for a flag just like the one you described - where did you source yours from?

Thanks!

We recently added a lightweight flag and heavy-duty suction cup holder.

The flag itself weighs almost nothing, the pole is lightweight, and the suction cup can be moved all over the vehicle.
The suction cup needs a good flat surface to adhere strongly -- it actually does better on various body panels rather than the windshield, which must have a slight curve in it. I always remove the suction cup before driving.

I also have to stretch to the top of my reach to attach the cup, to keep the flag well off the ground. I am considering ordering the next smaller size flag - this one is 3x5, so maybe a 2x3. This would also allow me to shorten the flagpole by about a foot, making it less likely to encroach on other parking spaces and also less likely to get caught in the door by accident. (Right after I took this pic I moved it because it was flirting with the car next door.)

Open flag (Amazon)

Good luck!
