Three weeks after praying outside Northwestern Memorial Hospital and praying at Rev. Ira Acree’s Greater St. John Bible Church for Rev. Jesse Jackson and Jacqueline Jackson, the Leaders Network is dedicating our September meeting to a major theme of the Jacksons – Keeping Hope Alive.
Our prayers continue to be answered with the ongoing recoveries of the Jacksons from COVID-19. God is not through with them yet! We will pay tribute to them with a musical performance from Pastor Darius Brooks, a gospel recording artist from Chicago with a national following. We will also have a special prayer from Fannie Smith of the Rainbow PUSH’s 1000 Churches.
Rev. Jackson was arrested in August doing what he has been doing for us for 60 years – fighting for civil and voting rights. Although he was hospitalized and couldn’t attend the March On For Voting Rights in Washington, DC, the Leaders Network and the MAAFA Redemption Project stood in the gap for Jackson as we marched with Rev. Al Sharpton in our nation’s capital. We continue to demand passage of the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. MAAFA Founder Rev. Marshall Hatch Jr. will deliver a report on our trip.
Connected to voting rights is how our city and state legislative maps are drawn. The final maps will remain for the next 10 years until 2031. Our Board Secretary, Deborah Williams, will lead a discussion with experts on redistricting.
Another issue of importance to the Jacksons is economic empowerment for our communities. Rev. Marshall Hatch will provide an update on our work to establish the Leaders Network Community Credit Union.
We are Keeping Hope Alive for the people on the west side with every topic at this meeting and with the ongoing work of the Leaders Network.
