Hi All,

What have you been up to lately o?

  • Did you graduate?
    • If you do have a carryover, please note that you should want to attend classes because it is in your best interest to do so. It is simply unacceptable for you to miss your classes on campus because you are feeling shy. We do what we must to secure our education, to do anything less would simply be cheating ourselves. It remains within any lecturer's right to fail you for being absent from their class, regardless of how hard you intend to study on your own. More importantly we are all human and there is a tendency to show a favorable bias towards students that we remember from class when marking exam papers (the converse is also true, i.e. a negative bias towards absent students)
  • Are you taking jamb?
    • If you do not have an admission offer from a tertiary institution in hand now, it is recommendable that you register for jamb. Late registration deadline is on Friday.
  • Have you secured an IT position?
    • It is my understanding that you are all eligible for IT. i.e. a carryover doesn't prevent you from starting your industrial training
    • We are committed to helping every 9jedu alumnus find paying jobs
    • To keep your expenses low, I recommend you look to work close to home
  • What have we been up to?
Chibuzor has been tasked with organizing a series of career development seminars. During each of these seminars, I will also be:
  • Reviewing your CVs
  • Conducting mock job interviews (to prep you for actual job interviews)
  • Providing job search tips, i.e. besides posting your cv on jobberman, what else can you do in order to find a job
  • Providing opportunities in sales, it's the only sustainable model in which 9jeducation.org hires in numbers.
  • Providing opportunities in operations. Every portal sold, requires a team to run it.
  • Self employment opportunities. Build your own team, around your own idea and we'll give you the technology to power it (e.g. send me an email saying "me and my goons intend to sell adire online, kini next step?")
If you are interested in engaging 9jeducation on any of the fronts listed above, you need to do a couple of things
  • Contact Chibuzor (copied on this email) to ensure you receive timely updates on seminar dates
  • Give your name to Lanre and list your interests/expectations for industrial training

Happy new year to all of you. I intend to have a great 2015, please consider this announcement an open invitation to join me in my quest to change education in this country. Every young adult in Nigeria deserves a great education, one that provides the security of a fruitful career. Failure to realize that both of these are your responsibility vs waiting on others (incl 9jedu) makes you more likely to become a victim of our Nation's educational system. We want you to not just survive the system, but to thrive and more importantly understand the importance of providing more opportunities for Nigerians by investing in improving the system. Stay alert and be proactive, it really is a jungle out there.

I wish everyone the best in their future endeavors and I look forward to hearing from all of you. Really, do let me know what you've been up to lately. I want to know.

Regards,
Segun
