Hi Folks,

I've sent email to EA asking for the parts, but I'm going to assume
the usual non-response from them. does anyone have pictures and
measurements for the support posts for the rear battery pack? I'll
need to make this myself I guess. :(

Thanks in advance,
Peter

P.S. Thanks to whoever posted the wiring diagram!

Hi Peter,

Those instructions are in the DC manual. If you didn't get one of
those, you'll need to get one. I am on the road, so I can't be specific for
which section or page to look.

Picture 21 on Page 24 of the DC manual shows the rear support posts.
Their measurements are a bit tricky because the rear control arm nut is
at an angle.

Since we only got your email on Saturday, Sunday is a little early to
start accusing us of non-response, don't you think? Yes, we have had
problems in the past, due to being understaffed and overwhelmed with
inquiries and orders. I believe we now have the staffing to keep up
with the communications, and we are expanding our supplier base to
improve turnaround times there as well.

Now, to your question. We have the suspension mount posts in stock
and will send a pair out today. They would not be easy to duplicate,
as they include a subtle twist, and come in right and left versions.

As for the wiring diagram, I am working on that this week and should
be able to provide it to you next week.

Hi Mike,

My apologies. I had assumed that I would have the same level of non-
response as in the past. I'm quite happy to work out any remaining
issues that I might have with you (and so far, it's just these two).

Thanks for coming onboard, and again, my apologies.

Cheers,
Peter

The rear support posts showed up as promised, and on time. Yay!

So now, my problem is that the engine compartment is just a tad
smaller than the rack supposes it should be. I *think* I have to
increase the width of the engine compartment by at least 1/2", but I'm
worried that I might be harming the structural integrity of the engine
compartment. I have a picture on my blog showing the area that needs
to be changed, and would love to have some opinions as to whether this
is safe to enlarge.

Hi Peter,

I ran into the same issue and simply pounded my way out of it:

Ross used a grinding wheel to take out a bit of the rack itself to
compensate for the interference.

Take your pick.

Cheers,
Tim

I also just pulled out my hammer. Compared to the gas tank area, this is an
easy one.

Note that the gas tank area is not terribly structurally important, so
bending / cutting / etc. there does not hurt much.

The area of interference with the rear rack is the suspension
console. This transmits much of the force from the rear axles to the
unibody. Proceed with caution.

Peter:
There is no problem with "clearancing" the body in the engine
compartmrnt where there is interference with the battery rack. Hammer
adjustments are common practice in the racing and bodyshop worlds.
Just be sure to paint any bare metal that might result. We have been
selling the DC Voltsporsche kit since 1997 and have had no reports of
structural failures caused by "a sharp blow with a suitable hammer" to
create clearance.

Note that I said, "proceed with caution" not "do not do it." But I
chose a different route, YMMV.
