EA DC kit shows no connection to Curtis controller A2 terminal?

Today I was ready to make the motor turn for the first time. Typical
of EA, reality got in the way with two problems. My second question
is in the next message.

The EA instructions and wiring diagram show no connection to the
Curtis 1231C's A2 terminal. I don't see how this is possible, unless
they're using the B+ terminal to complete the motor circuit?

The Curtis manual shows several wiring options, but A2 is always
connected.

Can someone shed some light on this? Thanks.

No, not that one, another one.

Hi Mike,

Here is some very, very hard-earned advice: ignore the EA manual, it
is cr@p.

Instead, get a generic wiring diagram for the Curtis and use that
instead.

While The Other Mike may have had some good advice, it has been a long
time since I've heard of him doing it lately.

Cheers,
Peter

I got the batteries wired up this morning and left the wiring per the
EA manual, and surprise surprise the motor turns! I don't know why,
but I'm going to leave it as documented in the EA manual.

I just uploaded the video of my tests here: http://porsche914e.blogspot.com/

I’ve been working on a Porsche 914 EV for the last 2 ½ years. More people have told me why it won’t work than I can count. I’m sure you have all heard the same things. My favorite was the guy at a transmission place who refused to change the oil in the transmission when I told him there was an electric motor attached to the 5 speed transmission. He was afraid to work on it. I told him that this could well be the way of the future and he said he hoped he didn’t live to see that possible future. I changed the oil myself.

I’m happy to say that I’m down to 13 items on my list to finish this car.

  1. Quick Charge Charger
  2. Pedal Assembly
  3. Curtis 1231C Controller
  4. String 2/0 wire and double insulate it
  5. (10) Trojan Group 27 AGM Batteries
  6. Shocks and Springs
  7. 12 Volt heater (Either the Florida Sun Heater or a couple of 12 volt hair driers)
  8. Gauges from Automotion
  9. Finish installing the new radio
  10. DC/DC converter
  11. Install 2 new horns
  12. Paint the vehicle.
  13. Reassemble the vehicle (put the bumpers back on, put the hoods back on, carpets, etc.)

My question to the group is: What is a repuitable dealer(s) to buy the Quick Charge Charger, the Pedal Assembly, The Curtis 1231C Controller and the DC/DC Converter from?

As we all well know, there are some crooks out there in the EV world and I would really like to avoid them. I’m open to suggestion.

Thanks,

David Shields, Louisville, KY

I bought my Iota DC-DC converter (501-DLS-110-55-K DC-DC) from evsource.com, which came with a two year warranty that I didn't have to use. That is all I bought from evsource. I contacted them a handful of times with questions and they were always responsive. They also sell the curtis controller you want and a couple of chargers.

Pedal assemblies are probably best found from your local craigslist or the 914world.com classifieds, sometimes eBay.

Good luck,

Dave

You can also trust KTA-EV (in Ramona, CA). VERY knowledgeable people,
very helpful, and best of all - they ship stuff on time! :)

David: I bought my controller & DC/DC from Kelly . I had some trouble initially but am very happy with the upgraded version I currently am running. They have made some real improvements in  their products. I like that the controller is programmable and has many safety features.  I have gotten many of my parts from Pelican parts in CA. They are very helpful. Their web page has step by step instructions for many things. I am running my 914 on 12 AGM's and have had real troubles getting more than 20 mi. per charge .

I may well run 12 AGM's in mine. I have weldeded polypropaline boxes for 10 batteries right now but I would like to cram 2 more batteries into it somehow.

I was hoping for 30 miles on a charge. Then again, my office is only 3.7 miles from home.

Kelly is KTA-EV, right?

Thanks you.
