Do you know how many miles, and how many charge cycles you have on your batteries? Is the pack generally weak or is it just a couple of bad cells? What brand do you run? Thanks.

How can I help?
My car uses 38 200AH voltronics lithium cells for the last 6 years and 65,000 miles.
Battery capacity is down(12%)  but still going strong. I can still go 100 miles

David : My batteries are Sinoply 100 ahr,s. I got them from Mike Collier at Lithium Storage Inc.(8/14). When I first got them they were great . I got 40-50 miles on a charge. This spring I left the car sit while we were traveling. ( about 3 weeks ) When I returned my pack was down to 30VDC (normally  160VDC ) I took the batteries out and gave them to Mike. His tested them and told me they were at 92% capacity. I put them back in the car and found 4 cells were totally dead . Mike was out of the battery business , he gave the web address for EVTV. They have the Calb battteries. I ordered 4 new cells from them. I am currently driving the car but my capacity is down to 30 miles. I have driven the car about 2-3 thousand miles in the 2 yrs I have had the batteries. The problem now seems to be that some cells will not hold voltage when under load. They alarm thru my BMS for low VOLTAGE, BUT WILL reset when I let off the pedal. It is a frustrating problem. Thank you for your concern. I would love to talk to you further about it if you have the time. How is you 911 coming ?

What BMS are you using?

(Your EVAlbum page is out of date.)

I am using the miniBMS from Cleanpower. It controls my charger as well as alarms. It has a high limit and a low cutout.

I switched to the Orion, and I have a complete 36 cell MiniBMS for sale if anyone is interested.

I am using the Elithion Pro for my 108 pouch cells. It's not very reliable. I may have to replace it with something else.

hey Dale,
Are these A123 pouch cells?
If so,  I have some new in a box I need to get rid of.

Hey David,

Where did you procure the Volt cells?

Richard, what do you have exactly, new in a box you have to get rid of? Elithion parts or some other BMS? What you have for A123 pouch cells will probably work for me. Any Li-Ion pouch cell is probably nominally 4 or 4.1 volts. Let me know. I haven't decided to completely trash the Elithion yet, but am looking for alternatives.

Mark, I bought the Chevy Volt batteries from a salvage yard for $2500. I later decided I wanted a little more than the Volt provided, so I bought a couple of additional modules from someone else who did what I did, bought a salvaged Volt pack and broke it apart, but who didn't need all of it. I located the full pack using car-part.com, and found the separate modules on diyelectriccar.com.

Dave

Sorry for the late response.

I do not use a BMS per say. I simply use Jack Rickard's method of bottom balancing my cells and slightly under charging them.  I count amp hours and keep my DOD under 80%
With my 200AH cells (I'm talking about my car now which has prismatic VOltronic cells) I can still go over 100 miles 6 years and 65,500 miles later.

I have new in the box 16 A123 pouch cells. no BMS.  These cells were for another project which I decided not to do.

Richard
