I congratulate you all.
I am in the third year of my DC conversion and have learned a
great deal from this forum. Unfortunately my 75 needed total brake and body work
that took the past 2 years. Since then I have it working with minimal
voltage until I pass inspection here in Delaware. BTW, no one in my family will
ride with me, though I am on a first name basis with all who work at the local
towing company.
Recently, the motor area started producing a high pitched
squeal, loud enough to be heard a block away.
I tried reseating the brushes by running at a low rpm over
time with no improvement. When I disconnected the motor from the tranny,
the squeal stopped. Next step was to reconnect outside the car and
indeed it squealed again. Putting an 1/8 inch spacer between the 2 halves
of the adapter plate removed the squeal!!!
I tested it vertically and horizontally outside the car and it
was perfect.
I just reinstalled it into the car and the squeal is
back. I plan to drive it some to see if something that is out of alignment
magically will fall into place.
I am baffled since there is no play between the motor and
trans.
Very discouraged.
Any thoughts?
Thanks
