shift transaxle. i have acess to a cnc machine and a auto cad drafter.
can anybody help with measurements? i have a motor with a 1" shaft and
a 1/4" keyway. i would like to know the leght of the adapter to go
into the transaxle, how far does it need to go back? the fly that is.
and does any body know the 5 bolt pattern?

Dear Broomhandle

Did you mean a 901 trans?

I just installed my motor  yesterday with a clutchless adapter plate. Happy to share more info if it will help.  I figure the depth into the bell housing isn't critical as long as you have a good interaction with the spindle.  You certainly need perfect centration of the coupler to the motor and transaxle.

I'll try and send a photo and will probably have it disassembled more than once over the next few weeks to get you more info. My adapter was made for me by a company in New Hampshire.

Good luck

It would be a switch if I can help someone.

George O.

i would like to go with a clutch, mainly for safty and i feel it would
be quicker to change a gear. and yes, 901.... oops. tail shift. im not
worried about the adapter plate. more just the adapter from the ev
motor to the clutch.

so with your coupler, are you up and running? has anybody else done a
clutchless? just seams like it would mess up the gears. i also have a
10" motor i dont want to eat up the transaxle. i would like to go with
a 915, but this will work for now.

I am in Rocklin, CA and have a motor sitting in the garage pulled sitting
separate from the transmission. I also have second 914 intact still
assembled. 1974 & 1975.

What dimensions do you need?

Hey there,

I'm in Los Gatos and I still have my engine sitting in the garage. It's a 1974, 1.8 liter. You could drop by in the evening any day Monday thru Wednesday this week.

Cheers, Jack Marshall.......

thanks guys, the dimensions i need is so i can build a adapter, so
basically the lenght of how far that fly sticks out from the original
motor, so i can figure out how long to make my adapter. thats about
it.

can i call or email you guys? rocklin is a bit closer.

1.675 inches from the flat bolting surface (not the lip ring) on the engine
to starter gear on the pressure plate side of the flywheel. If that is not
clear or you need some other measurement let me know.. I can send you a
picture if needed.

Hi Broomhandle (and everyone else),

I don't know if this will help, but one of my co-workers designs
racing transmissions and put together the .PDF that I uploaded
to the files area of the 914ev GoogleGroup:

http://914ev.googlegroups.com/web/HD-8000_bell_housing_r5.pdf?gda=LcL8q00AAAA2VCgBI0Ck0xHm4EWBhm4E7OdjP_ZOTBtTZydotsogq3EYu3NgE4bwTCCJrzOvpRVLME6MA97VNWsmj9VRv4Ui5Tb_vjspK02CR95VRrtmeQ&gsc=JXnGcAsAAAAerovsiWAfUUBa0-KMFY1I

It may not contain the proper depths for the 914 transmission
bell-housing, but it contains a bunch of information about the relative
positions of the mounting bolts and the center of the shaft.

I think the intent was to put an 8-cylinder engine into a 914 for racing.

Cheers,
Tim
